Why the Supplement Aisle Can't Help You

NoFap, kegels, herbs and diet hacks target a body that already works. Performance anxiety is a fear response, and physical fixes don't reach it.

When performance anxiety hits, the first instinct is to look for a physical fix. Something mechanical. A routine you can follow so you don't have to face the fear underneath.

That's why the internet is full of them: NoFap streaks, kegel programs, L-arginine, maca, horny goat weed, ginseng, beet juice, watermelon as "nature's Viagra," cold showers, testosterone boosters. They're appealing because they suggest the problem is simple. The trouble is that they're aimed at a problem you don't have.

Your body already passed the test

If you can get hard alone, get aroused by fantasy, and get turned on without effort, your sexual system works. If it didn't, those things wouldn't happen. What fails is a fear response that only shows up in real moments with a real person.

So consider what each shortcut actually touches:

  • NoFap. Thirty days without porn or masturbation, and the moment you're alone with someone, the same thoughts show up. Porn wasn't what stopped you. Fear was.
  • Supplements. At best you might notice a small difference in general health. The second you start worrying about losing your erection, your body reacts to the worry, not the capsule.
  • Kegels. They strengthen muscles, not confidence. A strong pelvic floor doesn't matter if your brain is shutting your body down.
  • Diet hacks. No food cancels anxiety. You're not low on nutrients. You're overwhelmed by the moment.

The hidden cost

Shortcuts do real damage in one way: they let you avoid the thing that matters. They feel like progress while the fear stays untouched. And when they fail, which they will for a fear-based problem, men tend to conclude something must be seriously wrong with them. Nothing is. They just aimed at the wrong target.

You can't beat a psychological fear with a smoothie.

What works is the combination the rest of this method covers: comfort, connection, communication and pleasure. That's less exciting than a bottle of pills, but it goes after the actual cause.

If your erection problems happen in every situation, including alone, that's a different picture, and the right step is a conversation with your doctor.
